A Handful of Patience is Better than a Bushel of Brains

...or so I've read. I wonder sometimes if I possess either. Today I put my daughters' swingset together. It's one we had up in Raceland, and it was taken apart for the move. The parts have been sitting in a pile of weeds for several months now. Honest to pete, the thing was harder to put together this time than when it was new!!! That or I'm an idiot...
First I put it together with the hooks that hold the swing-chains on the top, facing the sky. I noticed this while trying to hold back my tears when I could not get the screw to fit through the holes in the two opposite legs and the top cross bar to meet the nut on the other side. So, after deciding that throwing the thing over the fence would not be the proper Christian thing to do, I took it apart quickly, looking over my shoulder periodically to make sure my wife was not coming up the drive. Then I got the crossbar and the hooks facing the right direction. I stood the whole thing up with the sets of legs on both outside ends holding the weight. I tried several different, very creative methods to get the center legs to allow me to line up the screws, nuts and screw holes so that the goofy thing would fit. 45 minutes of insanity ensued. Then suddenly, I figured out the method. In ten short minutes the thing was standing on it's own. Stupid thing.
Anyways, the girls both are very happy to have their swings. Little Tater even has her own swing on the thing. She really had fun on that and the slide. Haley came home and swung a while. So that was the payoff. I really do love my girls. Even though the lousy swing set had the ol' preacher wanting to cry, spit, and kick the dirt right out from under it, at the end of the day my girls are happy and I am a very satisfied daddy.
God bless...

Hey, Brother Donnie!

Rebekah (Smith) Horne here. I saw your post on my Mama's site and thought I'd stop by to see what's going on in your world. The same kind of chaos that frequents the rest of us, I see. It's good to know. :-)

We love you and are praying for you and your people. I know you've been through a lot. We look forward to seeing you at the Assembly, Lord willing. Between now and then, we'll be joining you in LOTS of prayer and fasting for God's will -- and His alone -- to be done. Take care and God bless.

Me again -- just heard about your Dad being in the hospital and wanted to let you know that we'll be praying. Keep us posted if you get a chance.

hahahahahahaha!!! We bought a swingset about 3 months ago. It is sitting partial assembled in the weeds of our yard. MAN! Those things are crazy hard! I think Danny actually did throw a few parts at the fence! LOL!! We have the swings on it but the glider and slide are just laying around. LOL! :/ We will NEVER buy another one like this!

Hey, evrybody...
Sorry it's been a few days since I've had a chance to post or update anything. Very hectic week, as you can imagine.
I appreciate everyone's kind comments. God is so good to us all.
Sister Rebekah...Thanks for the encouragement, and the prayers for dad. He is doing quite well. His left arm and leg (that's the weak side due to polio, as well) were left somewhat weakened, but he is regain9ing strength and use every day. He was able to walk a little and even take a stand up shower this morning. God protected him, no doubt, and we are grateful.
Gotta go, god bless you all...

Wmmies,
I suppose now that I am a swing set expert I could come and put up the rest of that one for Danny...if he didn't damage anything on the fence. I can relate...heh heh
