The Church of God Eastern KY District Convention Report
February 23-24, 2007
The Church of God
12 E. Broadway
Winchester, KY
This years convention was a great time in the Lord, and certainly was an encouragement to all. There were fifty in attendance over the course of the two days. Friday night service was held “Camp-meeting style” with the idea of having an “evangelistic” feel. God was moving from the start of the service as folks from around the district as well as around the region gathered in and prepared to enjoy the good spirit and feast upon the Word of God.
As service began, we were blessed with Scripture reading and prayer led by Brother Terry Flora, followed by songs led by Sister Sam Flora, with piano by Sister Fannie Hinton who attended from Sturgis, KY. Sister Phyllis Warriner boosted the Children’s Ministry and Sunday School work, and we were again blessed by a selection of songs by the District Gleaners.
Finally it was time for an evangelistic message by Brother Shane Wilcox, pastor of The Church of God in Sturgis, KY. He preached under a great anointing and shared from the word and the message was followed by a good time in the altar which was extended when the people followed a few of the ministers back into the congregation to pray for a young lady who was in sore need of a touch from the Lord. God was glorified by all as we prayed and shouted to His Glory! Amen.
Saturday morning we met again at just after nine am, and began to feel the blessings of God immediately as we prayed and sang God’s praises. Brother John Talley blessed the congregation as he testified, read a scripture and led us in prayer.. He has recently been through a major back surgery and had not been able to attend regularly for a few weeks, so this was a special blessing for him. As he began to cry and tell of God’s goodness a sweet spirit filled the room.
The good spirit continued as Brother Terry Flora took to the pulpit to preach an anointed message about obedience. Following his message was the VLB boost by Regional Coordinator Sister Leandra Morris. We were all blessed by the sincerity of both of these as they allowed God to speak through them to the hearts of the people. Thank God!
The next item on schedule was Testimony Time led by Deacon Josh Graham, pastor of The Church of God in Elizabethtown. Brother Josh blessed us all with his wisdom, and love for God, along with his obvious compassion for others. It was a blessing to hear his testimonies, and words of encouragement, as well as those testimonies shared by the others who spoke up to tell of God’s goodness.
Sister Phyllis Warriner then returned to boost the ABM work. Her tireless work for the various auxiliaries in the region has long been a blessing to us all. God bless Sister Warriner!!
After the ABM boost we went immediately to a message by our Regional Overseer Bishop Paul Jernigan. As always the message was anointed, exciting, and timely. He admonished us to be sober and vigilant because there are still trials ahead for the church. Included in the message was some good Church history to help put many current events in the proper perspective. We are reminded that we must obey God and do things His way, not man’s. Thank God for Brother Jernigan and his boldness in delivering what God has given him.
In the Saturday afternoon session, Sister Rita Talley led the congregation in singing, accompanied by Sister Barbara Hilton on piano. Once again, one could sense the love the people have for their God who has kept them through so much in the last year. Brother Barry Warriner, Regional Field Secretary came to the pulpit next and as always was a blessing to the people. He is another plain spoken preacher who believes in telling it like God gives it. Thank God for men like this who are such an encouragement to us, while also helping us to remember to put God first. Once again, it seemed that obedience came out as a theme.
The service was closed with an exhortation to pray, and work for Revival from both our Regional and District overseers. Our theme for the weekend was “Revive Us, O Lord.” We want so much to see this region fully revived and on fire for God like never before. Many thanks to God for His presence in our District Convention. Because oif Him, it was truly a success!

Glad to hear all the details of everything going well.
What a blessing, Brother Donnie, to hear the details of your Convention. Thank you for taking the time to share.
It was a good convention. I feel so blessed, and today's services were great in our local church as well. God is certainly preparing us for something great, I believe.
I've been away from home so much lately. I'm on the road through the week training for my new job at Schwan's. It is going great, but being away from home takes a toll on anyone. I needed to convention, and I believe our district folks needed it too. I prayed it would be a time of uplifting and encouragement to all our peolle, and I believe that it was. Thanks to God!!
Praise the Lord!
Gos bless you all...
Brother Donnie
Bro. Donnie, Wish I could have been there. I sure miss you all. It sounds as if heaven came down and glory filled your soul. I sure miss Sis. Fannie and her wonderful piano music.
I can't believe this post has been up for so long and I'm just now discovering it! Great report, Brother Donnie. I almost felt like I was there with you, enjoying it all! I'm so thankful for how God is moving in His Church, even in the midst of the (seemingly) never-ending trials. God bless all of you!
I'm thinking Brother Donnie has wandered away in his yellow Schwan's truck, never to be heard from again. *sad sigh*
I promise I haven't wandered away. I have been putting in reeeeaaaaallllyyyy long days...and lots of them. The set of routes that I have been assigned to have been really neglected and are pretty out of shape.(so I'm a perfect match. HA!!) I have been working with one of the supervisors and we have been having to literally find all the stops with a GPS unit and a map of Winchester, KY. Many of the stops do not even have cards in the route book to giv e us a clue as to when or where to show up. It has been a nightmare, but is slowly improving. I have already been running more $ per day than it has been running lately. But, anyway. I have not abandoned the ole blog...just have not had much time to do any writing. I have some pretty good stuf to tell as soon as I get a day off. I'll be off Sunday and Monday so I hope to catch up then.
Looking forward to your good report! We bought from the Schwan guy in Colorado because we lived 20-30 minutes from the nearest grocery store. It was nice to have frozen food delivered to our front door, especially in the summer. We went through several Schwan guys. The hours were too brutal for them. I hope you can hang on and things will smooth out for you. Eat one of those Golden Nugget bars for me, will ya? :-)
Hey...
The hours are kind of tough. I can deal with that, I suppose. I knew it going in, so I can't bring myself to whine much. I really prayed about this job because of the time commitment required. It just felt like for whatever reason it was/is a door that God was opening for me for whatever reason. It seems like I'm often in the dark as to why God works things out the way that He does, lol. But I have learned to accept it and walk through whatever door He opens for me. The worst part of this has been the training period, which I have almost completed. Next week I go to Memphis, TN for my final week of classroom training. After that I am turned loose on my route. Then I start with working four days per week, which will give me some nice weekends to be with my family and plan some Revivals for our local church, as well as some fellowship activities locally and for the district. I got a lot on my plate. I get tired thinking about it. I also hope to get out and preach a few Revivals. I will be having some five day weekends from time to time, so that will open some space up to get out more. Within a few months my boss plans to have us working three day weeks. That just seems awesome to me. Three really long days working, followed by four equally long days off! Pretty good deal. That's if God even leaves me here. I'm praying for Him to completely have His way with us. Whatever, wherever, whenever. I don't ever expect to feel completely at home in this world...don't want to. But I do know that I get the most peaceful feeling in my soul when I know beyond any shadow of doubt that I am in His will.
